Food Waste Action Week

Food Waste Action Week

In the UK alone, we throw away 6.6 million tonnes of household food waste every year. Almost three quarters of this is food we could have eaten. That’s why anti-waste charity, Wrap is hosting its second annual Food Waste Action Week from 7-13th March, to raise awareness of what we can do to stop wasting food and fight climate change.

Here at Merchant Gourmet, we believe in making small, sustainable changes that make a big difference. And cutting down food waste is one of the most effective ways to tackle climate change. Everyone can play their part, so here are some helpful hacks and tasty low-waste recipes to help you make the most of the food you buy.

For a speedy lunch, that uses any leftover veg in the fridge - grate courgettes and carrots and combine with a pouch of Zingy Korean-Style Grains. Mix to form a simple batter, with flour and milk and fry until golden.

Give your empty Plant Jars a new lease of life! Rinse, sanitise and fill them with anything you have on hand. Try a homemade jam, Chestnutella or grow your own herbs. You could even pickle leftover cucumbers and radish with equal amounts of vinegar, water and a sprinkling of sugar.

For a zero-waste recipe that’s packed full of plants, try this Roasted Cauliflower with Glorious Grains. Make the most of any leftover, seasonal veg and use the entire cauliflower (leaves and all)! You can swap the grains for any of our pouches that you have in the cupboard.

Did you know that you can recycle our pouches? Find out more and order your free Enval envelope here to help close the gap on single use plastics.
