Brussels Sprouts with Chestnuts

Make the most of Chestnut season with this festive staple. Serve this quick and easy dish for Christmas dinner or as an accompaniment to a Sunday roast.

Ingredients

  • 300g Brussels sprouts, trimmed 
  • 1 pouch of Merchant Gourmet Whole Chestnuts
  • 8 shallots or 1 small red onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 40g butter or plant-based alternative 
  • Few sprigs of rosemary 
  • Few sage leaves 
     

Instructions

  1. Put a medium pan of water on to boil and blanch the Brussels sprouts for 30 seconds. Drain well.
  2. Heat the butter in a large frying pan, then add the shallots or onion and fry for 2 minutes over medium heat until golden. Next, add the Brussels sprouts and season well with salt and pepper.
  3. Reduce the heat slightly and cook for about 8 minutes, stirring them around, until the shallots or onion and Brussels sprouts are golden and cooked through. 
  4. Lastly, add the Merchant Gourmet Chestnuts to the pan and cook for a further 3–4 minutes until the chestnuts are hot, then pile everything into a warm serving dish. Garnish with a few sprigs of rosemary or sage if using and enjoy!
